The Vikings were Norse warriors, explorers, pirates and traders who raided and colonized large areas in Europe. These explorers traveled using their famous longships. They traveled to many distant parts of our world including Constantinople, Volga river in Russia, Greenland, Iceland and even Newfoundland in North America. This period of Viking expansion and conquest is known as the Viking Age, and forms a major part of the medieval Viking history of Scandinavia, Britain, Ireland and the rest of Europe in general.
