Arms and Armor History - 9th Century AD
Casque - A casque was a metal helmet worn over the arming cap and coif. These types of helmets were popular between 9 and 13th century. Often casques had a metal strip (nasal) protruding at the front of the helmet to protect the nose. In the 14, century casques gradually gave way to bascinet helmets which provided a lot more protection to the face and the neck.
